“It is a Way of Thinking”
In “Why We
Need to Understand Science” written by Carl Sagan, he provides insight and
attracts attention to an academic issue occurring throughout the United
States. Writes about how America’s
scientific illiteracy and its contributing factors. He states how the United States has fallen
behind other countries all subjects. He
claims that one of the potential reasons to the academic decline is because
educators are teaching inspiringly and incompetently. While also claiming that this is because
teachers are poorly trained in the subjects they are teaching and are not paid
enough.
This is an
eye opener, because I feel that often times educators do not receive enough
credit for their impact on each generation.
Educators should get paid more and should be pushed to teach the
subjects and materials they are trained in.
If they are not trained they should be, which means that educational
funding should be increased. Based on
the global rankings, America should consider this and correct it and make this
investment for the future.
